Liability Insurance

Liability Insurance

Liability insurance (also called third-party insurance) is a part of the general insurance system of risk financing to protect the purchaser (the "insured") from the risks of liabilities imposed by lawsuits and similar claims and protects the insured if the purchaser is sued for claims that come within the coverage of the insurance policy.

Most states require you have at least a minimum amount of liability insurance, but that's usually not enough. Industry experts suggest you have at least $100,000 of bodily injury liability protection per person/$300,000 for bodily injury per accident/$100,000 for property damage (100/300/100). Liability insurance works this way.
